Statement by Wizz Air in response to the claims made by Daily Mail

General response by Wizz Air:

“Claims that we extended the Cluj-London operation to 7 daily flights are completely unfounded. Cluj-Luton continues to operate up to 7 times per week since 2010. We announced one new UK route from Craiova in 2013, with a weekly seat capacity of just 360 UK bound seats. We did not announce in 2013 or in 2014 to date any UK route from Sibiu.”

Specific responses:

Daily Mail Claim:  Wizz Air now operates six daily flights from Cluj (Transylvania) to London Luton. This is up from three a day.

Wizz Air Response:  “This is completely false. Cluj London Luton operates either 6 times per week or 7 times per week, depending of the season.”

Daily Mail Claim:  In 2013, they have announced three new cities: extension in Cluj, Craiova – new, Sibiu – new.

Wizz Air Response:  “We did not extend the Cluj-London operation, which continues to operate up to 7 times per week as in 2010. We announced one new UK route from Craiova in 2013, with a weekly seat capacity of 360 UK bound seats. We did not announce in 2013 or in 2014 to date any UK route from Sibiu.”

Daily Mail Claim: While you and Wizz Air state that there were flights available for 190 Euros, there were also a significant number, found by us, priced around £300.

Wizz Air Response: “Flights were available on Dec 31 for travel on the next day for 190 Euro, and even on today’s date many fares for 29 GBP or 39 GBP can be found on flights from Romania to UK in January.”

Wizz Air: "Independent screen shots done of our website on 1 Jan confirm that the flights on our Bucharest route for travel to London in the first week of January were available for last minute bookings for just 235 GBP, and since the peak travel period after the Christmas holiday season, prices have fallen to just 59 GBP."
